“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Proverbs 10:4
Laziness is one of my pet peeves. Now I am not talking about spending some time relaxing, everyone deserves some time to their self to recoup.
Laziness is when you are asked to do something such as take your stuff up to your room and put it away.
Instead of following through all that happens is you either do nothing or you take your stuff to the stairs and leave it there. I love my girls but they can be famous for the non-follow-through habit.
My husband and I are trying to teach them about the importance of diligence and completion. We had a discussion about what they want for their future. I am proud to say that one of my girls wants to become either a Zoologist or a Teacher. Now I know they are a bit polar opposites but hey at least she is thinking about it and what it would take. Many years ago she did not even want to continue school after High School.
This verse really hits home for me for two reasons: one my sister, Jamie, and I grew up in a household that struggled because of lack of education from both of our parents. We were raised in a home where going to Goodwill for clothes was a treat. Our favorite past time was going dumpster diving, at the dump, with our daddy. The second reason, I obtained my Master’s Degree at the age of 40. Which means I have spent some adult years living paycheck to paycheck, barely being able to feed my kids. Don’t get me wrong I am not saying that by having a degree I will be guaranteed riches but I will definitely have security in finding a job.
I want my kids to see that mom had the will-power and strength to go back to school to finish my degree. I also want to know that if something happened to my husband, I could financially support our family.
