“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and enter His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name” Psalm100:4
I saw a question that said, “what would happen if you woke up one morning only having what you thanked Him for the day before?” Interesting thought. I was dumbfounded when I realized that I had only thanked Him for our dinner yesterday. It definitely wasn’t a good enough meal that I would want only it the rest of my life.
We tend to be so busy in our day-to-day that we only get around to thanking Him during the ritualistic times of dinner, the times when something amazing was just given to us, or the times when we were miraculously saved from something.
That is not to say that I am not beyond grateful for my husband, kids, home, food, electricity, water, my writing, my speaking engagements, the internet, and medical assistance when needed. It can just become extremely easy to assume that God knows so why mention it, again?
After reading that question I started thinking about the things that I am always thankful about. I also made a mental list of other things I am thankful for that may not register on another people’s radar.
I am thankful for:
- the sun not coming up as early in the winter = kids sleep in past 7a.m.
- my husband texting me when he is on his way home = time to erase all paths our two year old tornado left behind.
- my two year old still taking naps = gives us time to get a lot of homeschooling done
- how old my husband and I are getting = we no longer waste money of useless things
- a minivan that isn’t a cool thing to drive = a large family to transport
- weeds to pull & lawn to mow = an area for our family to play and gardens that grow food
- cleaning up chicken poop = fresh eggs every morning
God has given me so much to be thankful for and I am so grateful to have more to be thankful for than just the enchiladas.
What have you forgotten to thank Him for?
